Art Stewart

Art Stewart, age 76, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 at Wooster Community Hospital. Services will be Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Wooster Church Of The Nazarene with Pastor's Nathan Ward and Ron Frizzel officiating followed by interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wooster. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr. in Wooster is privileged with serving the family. He was born on September 25, 1935 in Wooster to Clyde E and Ruth (Knisely) Stewart. Even though he had serious health related issues for several years, he continued to work full time. Art was a long time building contractor, ran Stewart Pools for over 20 years, and was the founder of the Fit-N-Fun Stores. For the past 18 years, he has been a licensed commercial real estate appraiser and was also one of the original partners with Custer-Glenn Funeral Home. Art has been an active member of the Wooster Church of the Nazarene, having served as a board member and chairman, teacher, greeter, and building chairman. He was the co-founder of the Wooster Chapter of Christian Business Men's Committee, serving as Chairman, and traveled extensively as a speaker. Art led several work trips to Appalachia, and 3rd world countries, to repair and build new structures. He also served for 3 years, as the area chairman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Associations' World Wide Pictures Division. Art was well known as an ardent student of the Bible, and outstanding teacher and has authored 3 books. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and several specialty schools. He served 6 years in the national Guard toward the end of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (MacDonald) Stewart of the home; a son, Jerry of Wooster; daughters, Judy (Frank) Martinez and Jackie Claybough both of Chattanooga, TN.; 3 step-children, Justin (Kelley) Shetler of Wooster, Matthew Shetler of Columbus and Whitney Shetler of Los Angeles, CA.; a step-sister, Loretta (Melvin) Workman of Virginia; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Roger Butler.
