Avis L. Blum

Avis L. Blum, age 88, of Millersburg, Ohio, entered into rest, Sunday morning, May 3, 2009 at Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg. It was her wishes for a private family interment which will take place at CrownHill Cemetery in Amherst, OH. at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will take place 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 136 Main St., Glenmont, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Memorial Society of North Central Ohio, 3300 Moorewood Rd. Akron, OH 44333. She was born on March 16, 1921 in Phoenix, Arizona to Gerald "Jay" and Faith E.(Bradley) Locke. She graduated from the former Dyke Business College in Cleveland; married Robert F. Blum on May 2, 1971 in Willoughby, Ohio. He entered into rest on May 2, 1982. She began working as a Legal Secretary in Cleveland, Ohio and then LosAngeles, California for many years; a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Glenmont; member of Business and Professional Women's Club; Purple Passions of Holmes County; belonged to the VFW Auxilliary in Killbuck; Order of Eastern Star; Cleveland Theosophical Society; was the editor of the Spindrift column in the Daily Record for many years; was an artist and a poet. After her retirement, she worked for the Ohio State Extension offices in Millersburg. she is survived by 3 daughters, Faith A. (Robert) Beliveau of Litchfield Twp., Ohio, Mary E. Jolley and Susan K. Braig both of Millersburg; an "almost daughter", Julie Wagner of North Olmstead, Ohio; 2 foster daughters, Jane Stavely of Fort Myers, Florida and Joyce Hauke of Sandusky, Ohio; 3 Grandsons, Jeffry R. (Dixie) Beliveau of Brunswick, Ohio, Eugene C. (Donna) Braig of Columbus, Ohio and Kevin King of China; a step-son, R. Stephen Blum of New York, N.Y.; 3 step-Grandsons, Chuck (Sharie) Jolley and Tim (Tammy) Jolley all of Millersburg and David (Mary) Jolley of Orrville, Ohio; 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and loving husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Jack E. Locke, Grandson, Michael Braig, Sr., Great-Grandson, Michael Braig, Jr. and a son-in-law, Charles C. "Bud" Jolley.
