David R. Martin

David R. Martin, age 69, of Wooster, passed away, Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at The Kindred Hospital in Cleveland. He was born on November 20, 1945 in Wooster to the late Ervin and Edna (Doerschuk) Martin. Growing up on a farm in Sterling, he was a graduate of Smithville High School class of 1963 and was a life member of the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren in Orrville where he had been involved in work, camp and mission projects. He worked for Rubbermaid Inc. for 35 years before retiring in 2012. His loves included motorcycling, auctions where he'd buy up bargains and sell; antique collecting, antique tractors/farm machinery, bowling, a collector of knives and arrowheads and photography. He was a member of the GWRRA (Goldwing Road Riders Assoc. Chapt. I); The Cherry 7-up bowling team at Wayne Lanes, The Western Reserve Cutlery Assoc., The Rubbermaid Retiree Lunch Bunch; A member and volunteer of the Smithville Community Historical Society, a volunteer at People To People Ministries, and a former member of The Archaeological Society of Ohio. Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Melinda Ann; children/stepchildren, Darcee Martin (Kevin) Cormany of Orrville, Daniel Martin of Wooster, Rich and Deanne Gentry of Wooster, and Jodie (James) Powers of Wooster; 11 grand/step grandchildren, McKenna, Camden, Peyton, Tyler (Sarah), Emily (Andy), Chloey, Jaydon, Bryson, Brittany (Mike), Zach (Deanna), and Tiffany (Bobby); 5 great step grandchildren, Skylar, Savannah, Ellie, Triston and Gracie; a brother, Richard (Marge) Martin of Ottawa, KS; and a sister, Joyce (James) Fike of Doylestown. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the East Chippewa Church of The Brethren, 7207 Chippewa Rd., Orrville with Pastors Delbert Kettering and Dan Bishop officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of fellowship and comfort food following services at the church.
