Dean E. Swartz

Dean E. Swartz, age 79, of Wooster, passed away Thursday, April 7th, 2011 at Smithville-Western Care Center in Wooster following an extended illness where he was surrounded by his family. Services will be Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Pastor Bob Meyer officiating followed by interment at Burbank Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour (1:00-2:00p.m.) at the funeral home on Tuesday. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at: www.custerglenn.com. Dean was born on November 2nd, 1931 in Burbank to Ingle L. and Nellie M. (George) Swartz. He graduated from the Burbank School in 1949 and remained active in the alumni functions. Dean was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict in the 45th infantry division; 279th infantry regiment. He continued to have an enthusiastic interest in military history throughout his life. He enjoyed restoring his historical army jeeps and driving them in parades. Dean was employed by the Wooster Brush Company where he worked in the maintenance Dept.. He then retired in 1994 after 29 years of service. Dean was an avid Ohio State University sports fan and particularly enjoyed attending football games in the "shoe" with his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Wendy (Greg) Steiner and Cheryl Swartz (Gene Crisco) and granddaughter, Rachael Swartz all of Wooster; a sister, Betty Bird of Wadsworth; nieces, Connie (Jim) Blair, Peggy (Frank) Lopresty and nephews, Harold (Madeline) Keener and Robert (Anna) Keener. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Marvel Swartz, Pauline Elliston, and Evelyn Keener, and a brother, Andrew Swartz. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Smithville-Western Care Center as well as Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County for their compassionate care.
