Derald Roger Hatton

Derald Roger Hatton, age 84, of Wooster, but formerly living most of his life in Middletown, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, April 23rd, 2009 at Westview Manor Nursing Center, Wooster. Services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the Church Of The Saviour, 480 Fry Rd., Wooster with Rev. Dr. Brent Durham officiating followed by interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wooster where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be Sunday, 6 - 8 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster and one hour prior to services (10:00 - 11:00) at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd. Wooster, Ohio 44691. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at: www.custerglenn.com. He was born on November 2, 1924 in Middletown, Ohio to James B. and Rose (Wilson) Hatton and moved to the Wooster area in 2007. He was a graduate of Middletown High School and the University of Cincinnati. He then served in the U.S. Army for 18 months during WWII and was wounded during the Battle Of The Bulge. He was then awarded the Purple Heart and Victory Medals. He married Donna Mae Baird in Middletown in 1946. Derald made his career as a Mechanical Engineer in the paper pulp industry and worked for Shartle Black Clawson and his own Hatton Enterprise and was awarded many patents to his name. Derald was a good husband, father, grandfather, and a friend. He and his wife developed many close friends throughout the years and many opportunities to travel the country and visit many foreign lands. He was blessed with a good life. He was a life long member of Forest Hills Country Club in Middletown, where he had the opportunity to hit the Clubs first ever hole-in-one. He was also a devoted member of Middletown First Baptist Church where he served in many capacities over the years including Deacon, Treasurer, and Usher. Since moving to Wooster, he has been a regular attender of Church Of The Saviour. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by three daughters, Kimberly (Blaine) Chanay of Wooster, Heather (Steve) Geary of Glendale, Ohio and Melody Kirby-Budd (Blaine) of Wooster; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Sauter of Middletown and a brother, Robert Hatton of Dayton.
