Donald D. Sollenberger

Donald D. Sollenberger, age 93, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster. Donald was born on September 30, 1921 in Martinsburg, PA. to Levi K. and Harriet V. (Dilling) Sollenberger. He married Thelma Elizabeth Strite in Hagerstown, Maryland on August 25, 1948. She went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2013. Donald was a Manchester College and Bethany Seminary Graduate. He moved from Indiana to Wayne County in 1956, and taught at Creston Jr. High School; the Tiffin School for The Deaf and then with the Fostoria Elementary School. He was a member of East Chippewa Church of The Brethren in Orrville where he served in many capacities including on the church board and Deacon; was on the board for Habitat for Humanity. He traveled extensively with the Church of The Brethren Disaster Relief; belonged to West View Healthy Living Auxillary; and was involved with CPS (Civilian Public Service) in Puerto Rico. He also worked as a farmer and served as a pastor. He is survived by his 6 sons, Harold (Ellyne) Sollenberger of Kendallville, IN.,Dale (Julia) Sollenberger of Rochester, N.Y., Dennis (Melanie) Sollenberger of North Potomac, MD, James (Jennifer) Sollenberger of Orrville, Oh., David (Cresanne) Sollenberger of Doylestown, Oh., and Jeffrey Sollenberger of Collinswood, N.J.; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Carmon (Thessa) Sollenberger of Sun City Center, FL. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Kenneth, Galen and Byron Sollenberger and 2 sisters, Ruth Miles and Dorothy Beach. Memorial services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at East Chippewa Church of The Brethren, in Orrville with Pastor Delbert Kettering officiating. There will be a time of visitation and comfort food served at the church following services. A private interment will take place at East Chippewa Church Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
