Donna Hatton

Donna Mae Hatton, 86, of Wooster, formerly of Middletown, OH, where she lived most of her life, was called home to be with the Lord, Monday evening, January 28, 2013, with her family at her side, at Westview Manor Nursing Center, Wooster. Services will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. Pastor Dan Bartkowiak will assist. Visitation will be one hour prior (10:00 - 11:00) to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wooster. Donna was born March 26, 1926 in Middletown, to Millard Lee and Elizabeth (McGaffee) Baird and moved to the Wooster area in 2007. She graduated from Middletown High School and married Derald Roger Hatton in 1946. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2009. Donna worked as a bank teller at the Barnitz Bank and later, at First National Bank of Middletown. She returned to school in her forties, as she had "always wanted to be a nurse". After graduation from the Miami University, Middletown Extension, she worked as an RN at the Dayton VA Medical Center for 25 years. Donna did so much for so many. She treated everyone as though they were special and worthy of her love. As a faithful servant, Donna set a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren to follow. Her trust in God never wavered. She and her husband developed many close friendships through the years. They were blessed to have the opportunity to travel, both home and abroad. Donna was a life member of Forest Hills Country Club in Middletown. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, snow skiing, traveling and the sun and sand at the beach. She was a devoted, active member of the Middletown First Baptist Church. Surviving are loving daughters, Kimberly (Blaine) Chanay of Wooster, Heather (Steve) Geary of Glendale and Melody Kirby-Budd (Blaine) of Wooster; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Douglas Baird of Middletown. In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was preceded in death by sisters, Opal Pryor of Fairborn, OH, June Smith of Omaha, NE and Patricia Pergram of Trenton, OH. The family wishes to thank the Bridges staff at Westview Manor Nursing Center for the tender, loving care they have given Donna over the past four years. They also wish to express appreciation to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County for their assistance.
