Dorothy Spitler

Dorothy Spitler, 97 Dorothy Bryan Spitler, 97, died peacefully early Sunday morning, October 25 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a brief illness. She was born January 15, 1918, in Shadyside, Ohio to Henry Paul and Ella Kashner Bryan. In 1941, Dorothy married Charles Edward Spitler, her husband of 47 years. After Charles served in the Army during World War II, they settled in Wooster where Charles established Wooster Business College and Dorothy reared their three children. She was an active member of the community volunteering her time to friends and church. Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wooster and the Order of Eastern Star. Dorothy loved life and spending time with family and her many friends and neighbors. She often said she loved wall-to-wall people and she never missed an opportunity for a reunion or celebration. Well into her 90’s she enjoyed traveling and social events. She traveled to Dallas in 2013 for her 95th birthday party which was attended by nearly twenty relatives. Surviving are her three children, Jack Spitler (Barbara) of Bonita Springs, Florida, Doug Spitler (Gail) of Southlake, Texas and Jill Murphy (Allan) of Mill Valley, California; her five grandchildren, Jacque James and John Spitler of Florida, and Laura, David, and Eric Spitler of Texas; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Jack, and Mia Spitler of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends so close she considered them family. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her sister Marjorie Wright of Shadyside, Ohio, and her brother Glenn Bryan of Lewes, Delaware. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm, Friday, October 30 at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Drive, Wooster. A memorial service will be at 10:30am Saturday, October 31 at the First Presbyterian Church, 621 College Avenue, Wooster. An internment service to be attended by family will take place at Wooster Cemetery. Her family wishes to thank all of those who so lovingly cared for Dorothy during her recent illness.
