John W. "Jack" Swingle

John W. "Jack" Swingle, age 85, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 at Wooster Community Hospital following a brief illness. Services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Parkview Christian Church in Wooster with Pastor's Dean Hammond, Bobbie Warren and Jason Daye officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services and following services at the church where family will greet friends for a time of food and fellowship. A private family interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: The American Legion Post 68, 1901 Sylvan Rd., Wooster, Ohio or the American Red Cross Wayne County Chapter, 244 W. He was born in Massillon, Ohio on October 15, 1925 to Earl and Ruth (Johnson) Swingle and has been a Wayne County resident for most of his life. He graduated from the former Paint Twp. High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He married Mary E. Schuch on June 3, 1951 in Wooster. She survives. He previously worked for the former Mullets in Mount Eaton before working as an Engineer with N.W. Railroad Co. in Brewster for over 30 years before retiring in 1986. He and his family owned and operated 4 concession trailers working at the Wayne County Fair and surrounding county fairs for over 38 years; was a member of the American Legion Post 68 of Wooster; enjoyed deer hunting; gardening and tinkering around the house; loved to go to auctions. Was a member of Parkview Christ Church in Wooster and most of all enjoyed spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Joan (Robert) Daye of Georgia and Penny (Tim) Corle of Orrville; 4 grandchildren, Tiffany (Nick) Roan of Florida, Jason (Monica) Daye of Arizona, Roger (Cheryl) Corle of TN. and Tifany (Eric) Giauque of Wooster; great-grandchildren, Logan (Kierstin) Roan, Brady, Skylar, Aidan, Maizie, Emma, Dessie Daye, Chandler, Madison and Gavin Giauque. A sister, Millie Savage of Brewster and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Marie Traynor and a brothers, Donald and Robert Swingle.
