Leslie Glenn Hurst

Leslie Glenn Hurst, age 86, of Wooster, went home peacefully to be in the presence of the Lord, Monday, October 21, 2013 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services will be Thursday, 7:00 p.m. at Northview Alliance Church, 3464 Burbank Rd., Wooster with Pastor Geno Colarusso officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 2 - 4 p.m. A private interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is honored with serving the family. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at: www.custerglenn.com. He was born on November 6, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio to Leslie S. and Lillian B. (Ache) Hurst. After graduating from Ashland High School in Ashland, Ohio he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He then married Marilyn J. Shafer, his beloved and cherished wife of 62 years, on February 3, 1951 in Adario, Ohio. She survives. Leslie had attended Ashland College, the Class Of 1945 and Ohio State University obtaining a degree in Music. He taught school at Wooster City Schools from 1956 - 1983 and was for many years was choir director at Wooster High School. In 1984, he and his wife operated the Hurst Foster Home for many years. He was a member of Northview Alliance Church in Wooster; the Mansfield Federation of Musicians; C.A.R.E. of Wooster; N.E.A. (National Education Assoc. of Washington, D.C.; O.E.A. (Ohio Education Assoc.); he enjoyed playing tennis, golf and spent a lot of time at Apple Valley considered his second home. The last few years of his life, he enjoyed playing and practicing the keyboard at Northview Alliance Church. His greatest love throughout life was music and spending time with his loving family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Robin (Earl) Jentes, Sharon (Chris) Hughes, Teresa Hurst, Beth (Jerry) Zimmerman all of Wooster; 8 grandchildren, Brent, Brian, Evan, Darren, Laura, Lindsay, Jeremiah and Alicia; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jean McDowell of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cliff (Silvia) Hurst of Ashland, Ohio and Martha (George) Klein of Winston Salem, N.C. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister. He will be greatly missed. A special thanks to grandson, Jeremiah for all of his care.
