Merilyn "Lynn" "Auntie Lynn" J. Drumm

Merilyn, "Lynn", "Auntie Lynn", J. Drumm, 74, ascended to a higher spiritual plane in the Mystery of Life, Monday, August 2, 2010 at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster. She was born November 21, 1935 in Cambridge Ohio to Merton and Dorothy Boyd. Lynn graduated from Holmes-Leberty High School in 1953 and attended Ohio State University as a music major. A gifted music educator, Merilyn maintained a piano studio for over 30 years and was active in Ohio Music Teachers Association and the National Music Teachers Association. She was the pianist emeritus for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Wayne County and continued playing there and in many other area churches. One of 19 charter members of the UUFWC, Lynn worked with Lowell Steinbrenner, Curt Leben and others to organize the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Wayne County in Wooster. As the congregation grew, she was called on again to revise the bylaws, assist the Treasurer, and to serve on several committees including Caring and Membership. She was very proud to be part of the growth of the Fellowship from meeting in the Madisonburg Grange to building its own church. Lynn was also a charter member of the Wayne County Performing Arts Council, serving as director, music director or costumer for several productions. She also served on the board as well. In 2008, as part of Wooster's Bi-Centennial celebration, Lynn wrote, cast, directed and costumed the highly successful Cemetery Tour. Guests were treated to monologues delivered by Wooster's founders, movers and shakers. Sewing was another of of Lynn's passions. She sewed for her children and grandchildren, nieces and grand-nieces, then turned to quilting as they grew older. She joined the Tree City Quilters and was an active member. She made everything from AIDS babies' quilts to table runners for her family and friends. Lynn's appreciation for the written word showed itself not only as a lover of books, but also as a writer. She remembered every birthday, anniversary, birth or the occasional holiday with a card or hand-written note. An educator and mentor, Lynn took a great joy in helping people realize their talents and dreams. Lynn and her husband David celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007 renewing their vows and hosting a surprisingly sedate party. Surviving are her husband David, sisters: Mildred (Ken) Mahon, Ruth Boyd and brother, Merton Boyd, children: Michelle (Stephen) Perrine. Heather (Edward) Williams, David Jr. (Wendi) and Jennifer Drumm-Bailey (Ricky), grandchildren: Sarah, Elise, and Katie Stephens, Stephen and Nathan Perrine, Chris, MeriLynn, and Jeffrey Williams, Taylor and Brienne Fetty, Alicia Bailey and 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin Winkler and Willow Fetty, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends, and special friend, Coy Stephens. The family would like to thank Drs. Tina Nelson and Lawrence Stallings, the Progressive Care Unit staff and Dr. David Lance and Hospice of Wayne County for their compassionate care during this time. Services will be private.
