Ruth V. Sells

Ruth V. Sells, a long time resident of Apple Creek, Ohio, died January 26, 2009 at The Care Center of Lutheran Village in Columbus, Ohio, just five days short of her 101st birthday. Services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Rev. Ray L. Pfahler officiating followed by interment at Reedsburg Cemetery in Reedsburg. Ruth was born at Warsaw, Indiana, February 1, 1908 to Archie and Mary Becker and moved to Wayne County at the age of eight, where she lived most of the remainder of her life. She was a resident of Apple Creek since her marriage to Russell Sells in 1932. He died in 1991. Ruth received a B.S. degree in education from Ashland University and completed additional studies at the Akron Bible Institute. She was an elementary and junior-high teacher for 36 years, eleven of which were in a one-room school. Following the consolidation of the township schools, she taught junior-high grades. After retiring from public schools, Ruth assisted for seven years in the organization of the Temple Christian School at Mansfield. This was the Lord's calling, thus was not a monetary service. She was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, the Alliance Women's Missionary Group, the Apple Creek Senior Citizens, and Wayne County Retired Teachers Association. All of her adult life she was active in church work. Ruth served many years as a Wooster Hospital volunteer, twenty-nine years on the Wayne-Stark County Tuberculosis and Health Association as a board member, and seventeen years as a Wayne County Election Board worker. Ruth is survived by her son, Donald and his wife, Joyce of Galena, Ohio; grandchildren, Rachelle (Michael) Galvin of Fishers, Indiana, Christopher (Katherine)Sells of Lewisville, Texas, Stephanie (Bryan) Spear of Noblesville, Indiana and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Ester Sigler, Laura Ferguson; brothers, Arthur, Ray, Joseph, Ansel, Foster, Howard and Kenneth.
