Shirley M. Toledo

Shirley M. Toledo, age 87, of Wooster, left this earthly dwelling for a better country, that is a heavenly home, prepared by God (Hebrews 11) on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at Smithville-Western Care Center in Wooster. A memorial service will be Thursday, 7:00 p.m. at Parkview Christian Church, 1912 Burbank Rd., Wooster with Pastor Dean Hammond officiating. There will be a time of fellowship with family following the services. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is privileged with serving the family. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691 or Parkview Christian Church, 1912 Burbank Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691. A private committal and interment of cremains will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Akron at the convenience of the family. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at: www.custerglenn.com. Shirley was born on October 29, 1923 in Senecaville, Ohio to William E. and Edith M. (Finley) Campbell. Her family then moved to Byesville, Ohio where she graduated from high school. She was always thankful for the teachings and direction for life she received in this small village. She was especially thankful that she came to know Christ as her Savior, and the answer to all of life. After graduation, she worked briefly at Wright-Patterson Air Field and then with the Seiberling Rubber Co., in Barberton. From there she enrolled and was graduated from Cincinnati Bible Seminary school. From C.B.S. she moved to the state of Washington to teach on the Yakima Indian Reservation for 9 years and during that time met and then married Antonio L. Toledo on January 14, 1951. She and Tony went to the Philippines briefly which was his native home, where God blessed their evangelistic efforts. After Tony's death in 1973, Shirley returned to the Philippines until 1986. She then moved to Seattle, WA until 1989 before moving to Wooster where she has resided since. Shirley was a member of the Parkview Christian Church in Wooster, where she taught Bible School classes and was also a member of the Missions Committee. She is survived by 2 sisters, Marjorie Hellings of Wooster and Nannetta and husband, Jack Downs, who has been like a brother to her, of Clinton, Oh.; 3 nieces and 2 nephews, several great-nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and 1 great-great nephew and a cousin.
