Walter E. Canode "TOGETHER AGAIN"

Walter E. Canode, age 93, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord and to rejoin his late beloved wife, Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Wooster Community Hospital where he was surrounded by his loving family. Services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Rev. Scott Casebeer officiating followed by interment at Apple Creek Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Apple Creek and Wooster American Legion. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m. and one hour (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.)prior to services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either: St. Peters United Church Of Christ, 68 W. Main St., Apple Creek, Oh. 44606 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 A Back Orrville Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691. Walter was born on July 5, 1919 in Vinton County, Ohio to Charles "Clarence" and Elizabeth J. (Phillips) Canode and moved from Athens, Ohio to Apple Creek in 1954. He married Vesta I. Nelson on July 5, 1941 in Vinton, County, Ohio. She went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 1994. He served in the Army during WWII from February 8, 1943 - October 28, 1945 and married Vesta I. Nelson on July 5, 1941. He worked at the Apple Creek Developmental Center as Garden and Farm Manager for 35 years before retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Apple Creek for many years; was a member of both East Union and Pimona Granges for over 75 years; American Legion Post 147 of Apple Creek for over 50 years and former Apple Creek town councilman. He enjoyed fishing and camping, extensive traveling with his wife family throughout the years; was an avid gardener and was known for baking apple pies. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Jane (John) Dawson of Mt. Perry, Ohio, Robert W. (Judy) Canode of Coshocton, Ohio, Stephen E. Canode and Roger D. (Donna) Canode all of Wooster and Valerie I. (David) Brenneman of Galloway, Ohio; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Leslie and Lauren Canode and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn L. Canode. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
