Dorothy Genevive Starr

Dorothy Genevive Starr 1923-2011 Dorothy Starr , 88, life-long Wayne Co. resident peacefully passed away July 4, 2011 at her home. She was an only child, born March 27, 1923 to William & Mary Snyder (Mowrey) in the same farmhouse where she lived her entire life. After high school she studied at Kent State University, then married John D. (Jack) Starr on March 10, 1945 and had 3 daughters and 2 sons. While running the family farm most all of their lives, Dorothy and Jack were also active in other organizations. She served as a girl scout leader, 4-H advisor and was an avid animal lover. She kept busy with all the comings and goings of farm life, travel, truck driving with her husband, and building Triway Lanes. She was a fixture in the grandstand every year at the Wayne County fair. She enjoyed sweets, singing, flowers, collecting plates, classic movies (like Gone with the Wind), and their farm with many different creatures big and small, but most of all, her cats. She was a member of Trinity United Church and more recently attended West Hill Baptist Church. Dorothy, a loving mother of 5, Margaret Ann Albert of Carlsbad, California, Rosemary (Jerry) Roof of Wooster and Sharon (Charles) Myers of Cabot, Arkansas; 2 sons, David W. (Ilene) Starr of Wooster and John R. (Karen) Starr of Steinhatchee, Florida; also has 10 grandchildren, Morton (Jeanine) Albert, Byron (Kim) Albert, Bill (Jean) Edgar, Suzanne Edgar, Michelle (Jeffrey) Gibson, Cathy (Mark) Adams, Heather (Dan) Sparr, Beth Terwilliger, Karen (Luke) Parthemore and Jeremy (Melissa) Cutter; 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband (Jack d.2004) she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Louis Albert and grandson-in-law, Michael Terwilliger. Services will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating followed by interment at Wooster Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 6 - 9 p.m. and also one hour (12:00 - 1:00 p.m.) prior to services on Friday.
